For computers with Deep Freeze, installing Windows Updates through your computers' settings will not work properly. Instead, this must be done through Deep Freeze Console by following the instructions below.

Running Updates Manually

Step 1 - Open Deep Freeze Console. This application is available as a desktop shortcut. If your lab has a server, Deep Freeze Console is installed on your server computer. If your lab does not have a server, it is installed on your facilitator computer.

Step 2 - Click the dropdown arrow next to “Port 7725” in the left pane, then select “Entire Network.” You should now see the list of computers in the right pane.

Step 3 - Right click on a computer in the list and select “Run Windows Updates” to install updates on the computer. You do not need to “thaw” the computer before running updates with this method. You can perform updates on multiple computers simultaneously by left clicking on a computer, then holding shift while left clicking on another computer. All computers between the two you have clicked will be selected. You can now right click on any of the selected computers, and the command you choose will be applied to them all. Make sure to allow for up to two hours for updates to complete, since this process cannot be stopped.

Setting Up Automatic Updates

Step 1 - Right click on “Scheduler” in the left pane and select Add Task.

Step 2- Select Combination Task and click Next.

Step 3 - Name the task and set the cadence at which you'd like it to run. We recommend running this weekly on a weekend day when the lab is not in use.

Step 4 - Specify how often the task should run, and on which days of the week/month.

Step 5 - Select the task “Wake-On-LAN” and choose a start time.

Step 6 - to add another task and select Run Windows Updates. Set this task to run 15 minutes after the first task.

Step 7 - Click + again and choose “Shutdown.” Set this to run 4 hours after the previous task to make sure the Windows Updates will not be interrupted.

Step 8 - Click Finish to create the task.

Step 9 - Click “Entire Network” to see the list of computers. For all computers to which you want to apply automatic updates, drag and drop them from the list into the task you made. When you click on the task, you can see a list of the computers to which the task applies.
