Deep Freeze (Mac)
This guide will cover freezing/thawing Macs in Deep Freeze, and fixing licensure errors in Deep Freeze.
Macs cannot be controlled via Deep Freeze Console (Running on the Teacher's computer or CLS Server), and so Deep Freeze administration must be performed on each Mac computer.
To open Deep Freeze and thaw/freeze a computer, follow these steps:
Step 1 - Click on the polar bear icon on the top right menu bar
Step 2 - Deep Freeze will either request the Deep Freeze password, or Administrator credentials for this Mac. This is dependent on the version of Deep Freeze.
The Deep Freeze password is @lab!
The Administrator Credentials are below:
Username: Administrator
Password: CLSXXX (Replace XXX with the first 3 digits of the serial number of your lab's server or facilitator computer)
Step 3 - In the Deep Freeze window, you can select either thawed or frozen.
When “Frozen” is selected, Deep Freeze will save the current configuration of the computer, and it will reset to that configuration every time it is restarted. This way, if students install any applications or save personal files on the desktop, they will be automatically deleted upon restarting. When a computer is in a thawed state, it will operate normally, and any changes/installations will not be reset. When you need to make changes to any computer, make sure to thaw the computer first. Then you can make any changes you need. Then, after your changes have been made, you can change the computer back to frozen state to save your changes.
If you receive an error that Deep Freeze Mac is not licensed, follow the steps below to resolve this:
Step 1 - Log into Deep freeze with the same method described previously.
Step 2 - Select Deep Freeze Mac on the left side of the top menu bar
Step 3 - Click Enter License Key
Step 4 - Enter your lab's license key.
If you do not know your license key or your Mac administrator password, contact support@clsonline.com and request this information.
