Before Updating:
Check if the service is running by clicking on the up arrow on the bottom bar to see if it's running.
Go to the event viewer > application > look for the Impero service. If its error is not listed, then you do not need to update .NET Runtime Framework
Check for Windows updates
Step 1 - Check the Impero server version
Remote into the server (if the school has one) > Open Impero Server
Go to Help > About
The current version as of Oct 2024 is 8.6.26
If the server is not up to date:
- Call Impero and ask them to push out the latest update to the schools Impero Server. You will need the “Activation Code” when calling them which can be found on the first page that Impero Server opens to. 844.346.7376 ext. 2
- After the update has been pushed, on the Server, go to File Explorer and go to “C:\Program Files (x86)\Impero Solutions Ltd\Impero Server\Updates” and run the ImperoServerSetup(version number).
- After Impero Server has been updated, go to the connections tab at the top of Impero Server and see if all the student computers and Einstein are already updating and status shows "Active". If not, you will need to highlight the computers that have Status column as “Active” and highlight them by clicking on them and choose “Force Update to Latest Version”
Step 2 - Check the student computer version
Check that the student computers are up to date by going to Connections > click yes > you will see all the student computers listed and the version they are on. If they are not on the same version the student computers must be updated.
Troubleshooting
If the Impero Console is not launching from the Teacher computer, the most common case of this is there are computers signed into two or more profiles on the same computer which takes up additional available licenses. Easiest fix for this is restart all computers in the classroom, except the Server.
Another common issue is Impero not updating on Student computers. Impero should still be able to remotely control these computers if the version is not too far off.
If you can see in the Impero Server application (on server or Teacher computer in some cases) that there are computers that say offline and will not connect to the student computers, try restarting the student computer. If still not working, go to where Impero Server is installed (C:\Program Files (x86)\Impero\Impero Solutions\Impero Server\Updates) and find the latest student installer with the correct version. Either push it out to the student computer through LanSchool or even easier to the Transfer drive (usually on the desktop as an icon for teacher and students). From the Transfer drive run the installer and it should update the student (or teacher) computer manually. Grab the uninstall script in the section below if it will not update properly or fails, then try to install it again.
Application won't open at all
Follow the steps above to contact Impero to push the update. To uninstall use the uninstall script found on this Impero Help Article ( Mac Installing the macOS client? – Customer Portal (imperosoftware.com) May need to create a login to view the support page) (Windows Uninstall Impero client – Customer Portal)
Impero won't update
You may need to manually install the “ImperoClientSetup.msi” found in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Impero Solutions Ltd\Impero Server\Updates" on the student and teacher computers. Easiest way to do this is to put the ImperoClientSetup.msi installer file on the transfer drive from the Server and run it from the transfer drive (no need to copy it from the transfer drive to the student or teacher computer)
