General Troubleshooting:

The first thing to check is if the computers in question are completely plugged in all the way and if there are lights coming from the Ethernet port on the back side of the machine. See if you can ping those computers from the Teacher computer. If not, the IT department at the school will have to investigate a network connection issue to the affected computers in the lab. Another thing that might be causing this was a Windows Update

Another thing to check is to see how many licenses are available found in the bottom right of the Impero Console window on the Teacher computer. Sometimes computers use two or more of the volume licenses if one computer has several different students log into that same computer and each of those logins will take up an available license. Restarting all the computers in the lab should reset this.

If none of this resolve the issue, it is time to check the Impero version and apply an update if required.

Updating Impero:

Firstly, we will need to remote into the Teacher computer and remote in to the Server using RDP (Remote Desktop) or in some cases the Impero Server applciation is also running on the Teacher Computer

Open the Impero Server Application

There should be About section in the top menu bar, see if the version it is running is compatible with the version of Windows they are on. If it is not compatible, you will need to call Impero Support and have them push the latest version of Impero remotely to the Impero Server we are running in our lab configuration. You will need the activation code which can be found in the Impero server application on the first page it opens when you launch it. They will then push the update out and after a couple of minutes, the ImperoClientSetup8622.msi (8622 in this example, version may be newer than when this article was written) will show up in the Impero Updates directory: “C:\Program Files (x86)\Impero Solutions Ltd\Impero Server\Updates” You may have to have the teacher run the Impero Client installer from the “Transfer” drive which is accessible on all student computers from the Desktop. After the install, you should start seeing them show up in Impero Console running on the teacher computer.

If the About section on “Impero Server” Application says it is still on the old version go back to “C:\Program Files (x86)\Impero Solutions Ltd\Impero Server\Updates” and run the ImperoServerSetup8622.msi installer and that will update Impero Server. All done!
